The LST (Landing Ship Tank) is an
example of the American innovative spirit and productive capacity
that has brought us through critical times. Innovations like the LST,
the Liberty ships, and the Higgins boats enabled American forces to
surprise and outmaneuver Hitler's totalitarian regime. Democracy's
edge over totalitarianism is partly because democracy fosters
innovation. Since we face another totalitarian enemy now, this story
